There’s a special kind of magic that comes with staying in a safari tent. Maybe it’s the way the morning light filters through the canvas, or the quiet hum of the forest waking up around you. Maybe it’s the feeling of stepping into a space that blends rustic charm with cozy comfort — a place where you can slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature without sacrificing the little luxuries that make a getaway feel indulgent.
Whether you’re joining us for a crisp fall weekend, a misty spring retreat, or a warm summer escape, packing thoughtfully will help you settle in and make the most of your time here at Columbia Gorge Getaways.
Consider this your go‑to guide for preparing for a stay that’s equal parts adventure and relaxation.
Clothing & Footwear: Dress for Comfort and Adventure
The Columbia River Gorge is known for its dramatic landscapes — and equally dramatic weather shifts. You might start your morning with cool, misty air and end your afternoon basking in sunshine. That’s why layers are key.
Bring clothing that makes you feel comfortable, warm, and ready for whatever the day brings:
• Comfortable, weather‑appropriate layers
• Waterproof jacket
• Warm sweater or fleece
• Pajamas or loungewear
• Comfortable walking or hiking shoes
• Sandals or slip‑ons
• Plenty of socks (warm ones are a must in cooler seasons)
• Hat and gloves (fall through early spring)
• Sun hat or cap
• Sunglasses
Pro tip: Even in summer, the Gorge cools down at night. A cozy layer makes stargazing much more enjoyable.

Sleeping & Comfort
Our safari tents are designed to feel like a retreat — plush bedding, soft lighting, and plenty of space to unwind. Still, a few small items can elevate your sleep experience:
• Eye mask
• Earplugs
If you’re someone who cherishes a slow, quiet morning, these little comforts make a big difference.
Food & Drink
Each safari tent includes a refrigerator and freezer, giving you the freedom to bring your favorite snacks and beverages.
• Snacks (granola bars, trail mix, chocolate, etc.)
• Reusable water bottle (our tap water is clean and delicious)
Guest favorite: Bring ingredients for a simple charcuterie board to enjoy on the deck at sunset.
Entertainment & Relaxation
One of the best parts of staying at CGG is the chance to unplug — or at least slow down. You’ll find books and games in your tent, but feel free to bring your own favorites.
• Books, Kindle, or audiobooks
• Deck of cards or small board games
• Yoga mat for stretching or morning flow
Toiletries & Personal Items
We provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
• Toothbrush and toothpaste
• Beach towel (for creek dips or local swimming holes)
• Hairbrush or comb
• Deodorant
• Sunscreen
• Bug spray or insect repellent
• Lip balm with SPF
Local tip: Sunscreen is essential even on cloudy days — the Gorge sun can be sneaky.

Outdoor & Adventure Gear
Whether you’re here to hike, bike, birdwatch, or simply wander, a few pieces of gear can help you make the most of the landscape.
• Bike and helmet
• Flashlight or headlamp
• Binoculars
• Camera or phone with charger
• Backpack for day hikes
• Notebook and pen
The Gorge is full of surprises — a sudden waterfall view, a deer crossing the trail, a perfect patch of sunlight, we encourage you to bring what helps you capture those moments.
Miscellaneous
These small extras often end up being guest favorites:
• Extra Ziplock bags
• Small hammock (please only hang on XL trees)
• Thermal to‑go mug
• A bottle of wine or your favorite beverage
Bonus idea: Bring a cozy blanket or shawl for evenings on the deck — it adds a touch of luxury to your outdoor time.
Ready for Your Stay?
Packing for a safari tent stay is all about comfort, simplicity, and embracing the outdoors. With these essentials in your bag, you’ll be ready to settle in, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge at your own pace.
